I think I went to school with your sister, Kelly. Where is she now? Can you give me her email address? I would love to catch up with her. They are estimating the price at over $100 million more than what the city council is trying to slide past everyone.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231162963364357109.post-37038065509301295082009-10-14T13:44:14.808-07:002009-10-14T13:44:14.808-07:00For those of you who have not seen the 60 Minutes ...For those of you who have not seen the 60 Minutes story from the comment above, it's well worth 13 minutes of your time to watch. While some of the City's 401k offering are not "dogs" as described in the story, there, as many of us know, are substantial risks. Every employee needs to fully understand the risk and do what is necessary to protect their Defined Benefit pension. Especially since many of us do not have access to Social Security.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231162963364357109.post-73293894506769232602009-10-14T13:04:21.903-07:002009-10-14T13:04:21.903-07:00Excellent review of 401K. Check out this recent 60 minute segment on 401k.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAHgr9dY9BUAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231162963364357109.post-10775944729095258192009-10-14T08:54:26.883-07:002009-10-14T08:54:26.883-07:00Curiouser and curiouser, I think the Mad Hatter sa...Curiouser and curiouser, I think the Mad Hatter said that. I, too, saw the same magazine yesterday while in the dr's office using my "Cadillac" benefits. Your history of the 401k is right. Made easier to implement accross the country by employees changing jobs every few years to get a raise. Defined benefits no longer mattered because they weren't going to stay long enough to qualify for them. So they are pretty much gone for everyone except government workers, who generally stay on the job for 30 years. There is nothing wrong or unsustainable with the pension we have we have now. Except for the monies stolen from the account by the administration which has never been repaid.
So project on your curiousity. What's the mayors end game? Does he want this to be "The town Jerry built?" Does he envision a part time work force? Five years and out for everyone except the chosen few who are culled from the workforce for bigger and better things? (The newly installed fire chief was quoted saying he is able and WILLING to make the cuts necessary to be part of the solution.) The 401k would work great in this senario. Is it easier to steal money from a 401k than it is from the pension fund? I could go on but it's your blog.
The citizens of this city are being poorly served by the current admin but they don't know it. There are so many in power and more waiting in the wings to take the taxpayers money with nothing in return. It seems to me you are the only one asking questions about whats going on. Radio, TV and print (I would not call it a newspaper) are either dumb, clueless or inept, not bothering with the dirty little details.
I know you put a lot of time in this blog and I know it has cost you more than the time you put in but keep going. Hearing the truth is inspiring maybe it'll catch on....Those damn cops! They ask too many questions!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
