The Law Prevails? In San Diego?

If you have not heard; SDCERS has told the mayor they are not going to follow his lead and break the law when it comes to imposing the past contract on City Employees. In the Voice of San Diego, Rani Gupta wrote; "Rebecca Wilson, chief of staff of the San Diego City Employees' Retirement System, said the city charter makes clear that all current employees must sign off on several changes to DROP that were part of the contracts imposed on the police, blue-collar workers and city management employees not represented by a union. All changes were to take effect July 1."

It is clear the contracts that were imposed on police officers as well as employees working for Local 127 and managers (Chiefs and Captains) making unilateral changes to DROP must be approved by the employees. That means it is our turn to tell the mayor what he can do with his changes to DROP. The entry age, elimination of the annuity option and the complete elimination of DROP from managers CANNOT be implemented as the mayor demanded. Let's hope someone recognizes the capping of Retiree Medical Payments is similarly flawed and re-instate this promised benefit.

Finally someone is following the law and refusing to blindly follow the mayor's wishes.

I see trouble in paradise for the Mayor. If history repeats itself someone will be fired in the coming days. He is all about blame. He was a bad chief and is proving to be an ever worse mayor.
Sparky, your posts are a joy to read. Please keep them coming.

He is the mayor not the king. City employees are not the problem Contracts were agreed upon not forced in to place by the employees. At a time he was a man of the law now he believes he is above the law. Can you believe someone did not tell him this was the law.

Anonymous; not sure what you mean when you state, "Contracts were agreed upon not forced in to place by the employees." The contracts for Police, Local 127 (SEIU) and unclassified managers, were IMPOSED on these groups. The mayor shoved these illegal changes down their collective throats. This is the beginning of more to come as the courts take judicial notice of the actions of this city and the mayor related to the unfair bargaining and treatment of employees, their benefits and compensation. The mayor may head east; a snow ball stands a better chance of surviving California than this mayor does. The east coast knows little about the REAL mayor and he could ride the coat tails of his wife to an appointment in Washington DC; not much more!!! History will prove he ranks at or near the bottom of mayors to have lead America's Finest City!!! IMHO....

I hope this is true. I turn 50 in 5 months and can't wait to get the hell out of here. I want a few years of DROP money then I am gone. This City suxs. The mayor is a jerk and no one cares about law enforcement in this town. Three and a half to four years max and I am headed east... PLEASE tell me this is true...
